The Only Way to Win: How to Manage False Poker Expectations

How do you feel when you face bad beat in a game and lost money? What’s your way to cope with unforeseen losses? Do you prepare yourself for the possible outcomes of the game before you play? It is not easy to digest defeat on a high stake poker table but if you are ready to take any unexpected blow and your winning exceptions are realistic then you can surely save yourself from long-term adverse effects of your losses.

Poker is an unpredictable game and even pros have lost their stakes many times against newbies. The only thing that separates an experienced poker player from an immature is the preparation and the manner they deal with unanticipated situations in the game.

Here are few golden rules of poker which you need to follow to become a successful poker player:

“Never let the game play you”

This popular lyrics of a song of 2Pac emphasize the need of never letting the game control your decisions on the table. Thinking rationally and controlling nervousness and excitement is important in poker. It is a universal truth that a player can NEVER win each and every game he plays. A great player can lose even when he is holding his best favorite hand. What’s necessary is to never let the defeat become a reason of anxiety or depression and unfavorably affect your game. Unexpected beating on a poker table can even turn you into a savage if you are not mentally prepared for it. Players usually regret when they fold a good hand or become unsuccessful to identify opponent’s bluff. “What could have been the result if I had reacted the other way in that situation?”, questions like that can lead you towards guilt and remorse. The best way to deal with that is take a break and return with more preparation next time which will eventually but surely lead you to the greatest winnings of your life.

“Evaluate your game”

Keep a realistic record about your strength and weaknesses. Find the mistakes and errors you made in your game and analyse the reasons to eliminate them permanently. There is no scope of fantasies, emotions, or imaginations about sudden big winnings in the game as you are risking real money when you play on high stake tables. Identify your limits and play only the hands you are confident and comfortable with.

“Keep your goals realistic”

Learn to set smaller goals for the game. Unrealistic expectations can make you confused and vulnerable when you play as they motivate you to take unreasonable decisions in the heat of the moment and you can lose great amount of money. Learn to make your move only after properly observing the table and the opponents. You need to convince your brain to act accordingly to reach the ultimate goal. Small achievements also boost your confidence and help you get rid of negative thoughts. You can calculate and maintain a dedicated bankroll to support your game. Always play with the money which you can afford to lose to save yourself from any financial troubles in life.

“Keep studying”

It takes ages to learn tricks and techniques of poker. It is true that there are no shortcuts to success, even in poker. You cannot enter into a million-dollar championship like WSOP or WPT directly and beat international players without any study, planning, or experience in playing in similar smaller events and expect reaching the 1st spot. Luck favors only the people who put their best efforts to achieve the desired success. Keep learning to improve your game with continuous practice and training. Patience is the key to get desired results in poker.

Unveiling the poker style-Facing an Overbet on River Round

poker in goa

Poker, the game of skills, has definitely caught up with Indian populace’s imagination and is gradually edging out other skill based games to become the unrivalled favourite. Most of us are curious to know how professional poker players play so as to upgrade our skills to that level and command a winning streak. The fact that poker is not guided by a defined set of hard and fast rules and anyone with the right strategy and adequate poker winning skills can turn the tide in his/ her direction makes the game all the more gripping. Among the various skills, one is interested in, properly facing an overbet on river round is one of the dominant ones.

Unveiling the overbet type poker style

Professional players often tend not to engage in open-limping prior to flopping in no limit Texas Hold’em match. There are exceptions to this too. To go for a river overbet in a pot that rarely limped, one needs to have guts and be fairly optimistic of the result. Overbet can yield reasonable profit occasionally if the rival holds the opinion that you can pull off large bluffs.

Overbetting for higher profits

Often players tend to limp even during tournaments that involve significant buy-ins. A particular instance would prove the case. The tournament saw stakes as high as INR 5 lakhs. At 50/100, the blinds were poised. The actual stacks were near thirty thousand. The event was in its early phase. Due to arrival of players on the table unabated, it was short-handed.

At the dealer’s button was a player of middle age. As the hand progressed, few players who occupied the earlier positions chose to fold. The player with the button chose calling. Now, the pro took charge of the game. The next few steps would offer your insights into how professional poker players play. The pro decided to complete the hand from the standpoint of small blind through . The player occupying the seat left to the pro in big blind position chose to check her option. The pro benefitted from subsequent flop in the form of . He started leading with a bet amounting to two hundred. Subsequently, folding of big blind and calling of button limper took place. In this turn, the hand played was  and the pro chose to check and the rival followed suit by checking close on the heels of pro. The action on board was completed with . This offered the pro player sufficient leverage to assert in the hand. At this point of time, he chose to go for the abnormally large bet that had the potential of landing him in serious trouble or make him emerge victorious with unprecedented booty. The pro chose overbetting with an impressive twenty two hundred in the seven hundred pot.

Outcome of overbet

The overbet proved successful in pulling off a fortune as the pro conveyed the impression to the opponents on the table that he is less aggressive and predilection for bluffing in a position similar to aforesaid. In this manner, the overbet proved to be a good wagering. This important trait should be incorporated to make your repertoire of poker winning skills more effective.

Offline poker India is fast picking up. Knowing to play an overbet in the river round can prove helpful in winning a large pot. But prior to going for this risky proposition, you need to improve your hold on the game with intensive practice and mentoring of pros. This way you can monetize optimally on the overbet else you risk losing a fortune and it would be hard to recover. Play sensibly and follow the pros to make it big.

Misconceptions About Live Poker Rooms in India

Live Poker in India is shrouded in misconceptions. This is keeping people from enjoying a game that has high entertainment value. It is high time that misconception about live poker rooms is dispelled completely so as to expand the reach of the game. This post seeks to shed light on the fallacy of conceptions circulating around about live poker.

Live poker room is not a heaven for gamblers

What is live poker room? It is a physical room with tables set for players to challenge and outwit each other through optimal leveraging of one’s skills. A player with superiority of skills, mathematical nous, and keen observing power would emerge victorious in the live room. The factor of chance is minuscule. Gamblers gulping down wine and mouthing obscenities would not be around. Instead, sophisticated aspirants would gather to lock horns with each other.

You won’t leave the live poker room penniless

Another fallacy about Live Poker destinations in India is that one enters the room with pockets brimming with cash and leave becoming a destitute. This erroneous belief is keeping people from stepping in live rooms and be part of a vibrant sports culture. The live rooms are managed by professionals who have clear guidelines regarding the amount of money one can put at stake. Nothing illegal happens and if someone is running out of cash, needful arrangements are done to salvage his money. Occasionally tournaments are held where top notch players participate and walk home with respectable amounts of prize money.

Live poker rooms have legal sanction

Most of us are uncertain about the legal validity of the poker rooms. This makes us hesitant in walking up to the rooms and trying the efficacy of our gaming skills.  In 1996, the Supreme Court of India had exempted games of skill, whether involving cash or not, from being bracketed in the definition of gambling. The Public Gambling Act states categorically that ‘nothing in this Act shall apply to games of mere skill wherever played’ i.e. live poker room or elsewhere. The Indian Gaming Act’s Section 11 exonerated poker from being subjected to any penal provisions of the 2 laws governing gambling which were framed way back in 1957. A poker tournament is a competition in which success foes the way of those who exert the leverage of their skills. It is undeniable that the element of chance is inherent in the game but mere skills can only drive one home. Further, on 27th July 2007, the Bangalore High Court had decreed that organizing live poker does not come under the purview of Karnataka Police Act 1963 or 1986s License of Controlling of Places of Public Amusements.

Not only rich, but people from all strata of society can take part in live poker

The doors of live Poker destinations in India are open not only for the wealthy but also for the common masses. You need to be equipped with wit, quick decision-making ability, rational thinking, a proper strategy, knowledge of mathematics, keen perception and adroitness to be victorious. Concerted efforts are being made to promote live poker in India. Tournaments are held at poker destinations of Goa, Bangalore, Kolkata, Silvassa etc. with the objective of capturing the attention of common people only.
