Bluff Catching: How to Do it rightly in Liver Poker Tournaments?

Catching a bluff can be very challenging especially for the new liver poker players. Being new to the game, they can hardly understand as to what criteria is needed to catch and punish bluffers in the live poker tournaments held at the best poker rooms in India or across the world. The most important thing to understand for successful bluff catching is to know if you are holding a bluff catcher hand. If yes, you should go ahead and call the bluffer. However, if you are doubtful, you should avoid to call that heavy bet on the river, because you are likely to lose all your chips. Discovering how to sniff out bluffs at the table is the art of bluff catching, which new poker players need to learn. Here, we discuss some tips to successfully catch bluffers in the live poker:

1.Define a Good Situation to Catch Bluffs To successfully catch the bluffs from your opponents, you should have the ability to read them. When it comes to bluff catching in live poker tournaments, you should be damn sure that you have a strong hand to beat the bluff. If you are calling someone with top pair, it may be okay and you could win a big pot. However, if you are making a call with bottom pair, catching a bluff may cost you a lot. So, it is important to first read the opponent and then determine if your call makes a sense. If you are confident about winning the hand, then you should go ahead and make a call.

2.Call Bets from Players Capable of Bluffing First of all, keep in mind that your opponent should be in the category of players who often bluff. If the players comes into the small category of never-bluffers, or even if the players has been so tight all through the liver poker game with you, you should not risk your chips by calling him or her. Keep in mind that he or she is not raising that river with a weak pair or kicker. The player must have something strong and that is why he or she is continually firing. However, if you feel that you have a better hand to beat the bluff, you can go ahead to call those heavy river bets.

3.Consider Bet Size to Call a Bluff For successful bluff catching in live poker, you also need to consider if your opponent’s bet size makes it inviting to call. If you have an opponent with a history of routinely or frequently betting big amounts with weak hands, you may call any bet from him or her. However, if the player is smart enough and bets in favourable situations with strong hands only, you must not call bets from him or her. It is should also be noted that you may have an opponent who is bluffing every 2.5 times, you could call such a player if you have a hand to beat and snatch the big pot this way.

4.Call with a Bluff Catcher Hand Sometimes, you know that your opponent is 100% bluffing you, but should you have a bluff catcher hand to make a call and successfully beat the bluff from your opponent. Be it live poker tournaments or online tourneys, most players bluff a little on those rivers. The idea behind this is to force others fold and drive out of the hand to win the pot. Although many players are bluffing on that river, but some of them raising heavily must have something strong. So, be smart and careful while calling them, otherwise you could end up losing all your chips by calling river bets.

5.Don’t Call Bets Fives Times the Pot Size There are times when a players bets all streets. If he or she is doing that he must be having something strong and you should not make a mistake of calling heavy bets from him or her. The same way, if your opponent bets five times the size of the pot on the river, what is use of calling him or her with a relatively small or marginal hand with small pair, weak kicker or connectors? Sometimes, you are likely to catch the bluff and win a huge pot, but there is always a big risk in calling bets bigger than the pot itself, because if you don’t catch the bluff, you lose all your chips.

Live Tournament Tips for Poker Beginners

Live poker tournaments provide an amazing opportunity to invest a relatively small amount of money in order to win a bigger prize payout. In recent years, poker tournaments have seen a great increase in popularity, and the credit goes to its exciting, lucrative and invaluable factors that promise an ultimate gaining experience. Poker players make numerous mistakes while playing poker tournaments because the action on the tables is fast, and they consistently encounter new situations and difficult decisions. Following are some key tips that you should follow while playing tournament poker:

You should focus on adjusting your play throughout the tournament. There is more than one winning playing style of tournament poker. Moreover, you should keep in mind the stage of the tournament and your stack of chips. For example, while you play loose in the beginning and accumulate a lot of chips, you should consider slowing down in later stages to preserve your chip lead and let other players get knocked out.

Be aware of the chip counts of your opponents on the table. This helps you know where you stand relative to the other players, particularly in later stages of the offline tournament.  For instance, if you want to push someone with a short stack all-in , or let other players knock each other for a while.

Always play the player and the stack. You should always use judgement and choose your spots, even if holding a big stack. Further, keep track of players who have loosened up and those who have tightened up to survive to the final table. And, the ones with short stacks will sometimes raise with less than premium hands, so you can comfortably call them, if you have a big stack.

Never leave a player with short stack with only one or two remaining chips when you can put him all-in. These few chips can multiply quickly in the later stages of a tournament because of the high limits. So, don’t be kind and not put a player all-in when you have the opportunity to do so cheaply.

Be careful while making decisions related to the blinds. Correct decisions on your blind hands can often spell the difference between the success and failure in a tournament. Playing the blind correctly requires extreme prudence and discretion.

You should take full advantage of tight play. When everyone else is playing tight in the later stages of a tournament, you can take more chances and be more aggressive.

Bluffing plays an important role in No Limit Hold’em. It can be very powerful – the larger your stack, the more intimidating your bluff.

It is important to study your opponents. You must read your opponents and analyze their play especially when you are not actively involved in the hand. This will give you a sense of how loose or tight they are, and can help you in future game play.

Invariable, just learn to survive. Learning how to survive long enough to give yourself a chance to get lucky is essential. Anyone who has won a tournament has been lucky during various stages of that event. However, to maximize your opportunity to win, you must hone your survival skills.

Always stay calm, cool and collected. You are going to get some bad beats in a tournament. So, maintain a tough mental attitude and not go on tilt. Many players lose a few hands and get affected as such that both their discipline and their stacks begin to crumble. Don’t be that type of person, however do take advantage of that type of player.

So, next time you are gearing up yourself for the tournament poker, do keep this important tips in mind and implement them in your game play.

Live Poker Tournaments- The Evolution

Needless to say, Poker is the most loved card game in the world today. This can be witnessed with the rise of Online Poker companies and Live Poker Rooms (Casinos) which have attracted the attention of both Poker and Non-Poker players. Card games are played in almost every country of this world. Poker is the most popular of them all, and which is played in different formats and is known by different names. In the past Poker was played in certain events or parties but this trend has changed over the years. Now people have acknowledged Poker as a skill game and it is seen more from of a career perspective than personal entertainment. You can even watch tournaments on TV or online to observe and learn how professionals play and know their Poker stories.

Origin of Poker-
Some historians believe that this game must have started before 969 AD during the reign of Emperor Mu-Tsung. Some facts revealed that he spent New Year’s Eve playing Domino Cards with his wife. It is also believed that Egyptians played card games in the 12th and 13th centuries, and Persians used to play many bluffing games with a set of 96 intricately-decorated Garijfa or Treasure Cards in the 16th century. As specified in Wikipedia – In 1937 edition of Foster’s Complete Hoyle, R. F. Foster wrote, “The game of Poker, as first played in the United States, five cards to each player from a twenty-card pack, is undoubtedly the Persian game of As-Nas.”

The real evolution started around 1990s in France. French people used to play a game similar to Poker known as Poque. Later, America and Canada started playing and Poker got evolved as a popular card game. During that time, its most played variants were 3-Card Monte and Stud Poker. In the 1920’s Texas Hold’em was invented and today stand as the most popular variant of Online and Live Poker along with Omaha.

Offline Tournaments-
There are plenty of Online and Offline Poker tournaments that take place in different parts of the world. These tournaments are sponsored by large Online Poker companies and big Poker Casinos and Clubs, for example APPT, WPT, WSOP, etc. There are other tournaments like UK & Ireland Poker Tour, the European Poker Tour, the North American Tour and the Latin American Tour.

These Poker tournaments involve real cash in the form of Poker chips. As the different stages of the tournament are played the players who have been knocked out remain standing until one winner takes the final pot. Betting in these Poker tournament games is hugely lucrative, and for those who finish in cash, it’s like a fortuitous reward. According to Forbes Magazine, “WSP (World Series Poker) is the 9th-richest Poker event in the world, and on this listing is classified as a sport rather than a game.”

Online Tournaments-
Online tournaments work in the same way as live Poker tournaments. Though there are few differences in playing style but the rules of the game are same. It’s possible for Online tournaments to get more players in a game than the offline version. Moreover, Online Poker provides benefit of playing the game from the comfort of home. So, it’s easy for players to logon on their computers and mobiles and play at home rather than going to live Poker rooms.

Poker tournaments have grown at a rapid rate, and thanks to the Internet these card games have become easily accessible to the people. Game is getting world’s attention, in the coming times this Poker game is going to be more and more popular.
